Suite for Women's Imaging

The Suite for Women’s Imaging at Norwalk Radiology and Mammography Center is a new concept in preventive healthcare for women. It is a center where the diagnostic needs of women are centralized in a unique spa-like setting that includes amenities like private, women-only waiting rooms, soft music and herbal teas. The Suite offers state-of-the-art women’s imaging services including Connecticut’s first and only Full-Field Digital Mammography linked directly to Digital Computer Aided Detection. Computer Aided Detection (CAD) is a proven technology that improves radiologists' ability to find small tumors earlier. A sophisticated computer software program scans the images, automatically flags potentially suspicious areas, and alerts the radiologist to take a second look. It's like having another pair of trained eyes viewing every image, and has been shown to increase accuracy by up to 20 percent.

Women's ultrasound, and advanced fan-beam bone density evaluation/ osteoporosis screening are also available in one convenient, comfortable setting. A woman can have her breast screening and her osteoporosis screening exams in one convenient appointment.

Bone Density Measurement - Osteoporosis Screening

We offer the latest technology of dual energy fan beam x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) for bone density exams, which provides the safest and most convenient screening exam available. This latest generation of DEXA, evaluates the spine and both hips in just 15 minutes. This provides the most complete evaluation of a woman’s bone density status.

Computed Tomography – CT

Utilizing cutting edge CT "spiral" technology, we provide a full spectrum of CT imaging examinations. The Radiologist plans each examination based upon the individual patient’s medical needs. The Radiologist monitors the exam, and reviews the study for completeness before the patient leaves the Center. When contrast is needed, we use only non-ionic intravenous contrast for patient safety. Our computer linked teleradiology system allows for images to be sent to and from the Norwalk Hospital for comparison with prior exams or for clinical staff review.

CT Lung Cancer Screening

A breakthrough screening exam is now available at the Center that offers a quick, effective, and safe method of screening for lung cancer. Performed on the Spiral CT scanner, the CT Lung Scan exam takes less than a minute, does not require contrast, and is low-dose. This modality is able to detect lung tumors at a much earlier stage than conventional chest x-ray, thereby increasing the potential for recovery.

Dentascanning

Dentascan is a special CT study that is used to provide precise detailed images of the upper and/or lower jaw. These studies are used by dental specialists for the evaluation of dental implants and we are the only SimPlant master site in Fairfield County. To make this service convenient, No appointment is necessary. We welcome walk-in patients for both conventional GE Dentascans and SimPlant CT exams.

General X-Ray, IVP and Digital Fluoroscopy (GI Series, Barium Enema, HSG)

We provide a full array of conventional radiologic procedures, as well as, special exams such as barium studies of the upper and lower intestinal tract, urology studies, and vascular studies.

High-Field MRI & High-Field Open MRI

Norwalk Radiology & Mammography Center is the first and only facility in Fairfield County to feature both a high-field MRI and a high-field OPEN MRI at the same facility for patient convenience.

Our Advanced MRI Center provides a full range of examinations with two, brand new, state of the art MRI scanners. Our new high-field MRI is the SIGNA INFINITY with EXCITE technology from GE Medical Systems. Excite technology provides quantum inprovement in the speed and resolution of MRI studies which means shorter exam times and improved image quality. Our magnificent new GE Sigma Open Speed is a powerful high-field OPEN MRI system that allows doctors to scan patients three times faster than any other commercially available MRI sytem.

Digital Ultrasound

Our digital ultrasound services incorporate the latest in sound wave imaging technology to provide precise images of many internal structures of the body. Vascular(blood vessel) studies can also be performed using the Color Flow Dupplex Doppler.

Ultrasound Vascular Screening Exam

Preventative vascular ultrasound screenings at Norwalk Radiology & Mammography Center are a vital part of healthy living…More than half of all strokes are due to carotid artery disease, and stroke is the third leading cause of death in the United States.

Ask yourself:

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm can be a life threatening condition.

  • Are you more than 30 lbs. overweight?
  • Have high blood pressure or hardening of the arteries or take medication for these conditions?
  • Smoke?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then you may be at risk for these potentially devastating conditions. This screening package includes scanning of the abdominal aortic aneurysm and the carotid artery to help discover health risks. No physician referral is necessary. Routine results will be mailed directly to you and a copy will be sent to your primary care physician as well.
