Three of every four women have uterine fibroids, which can result in painful symptoms. Now there is a way to get relief from the severe discomfort.
Uterine fibroids are benign (noncancerous) growths that can cause pain, heavy bleeding, prolonged periods, or frequent urination. The decision to have uterine fibroids treated usually depends on the severity of the symptoms. Uterine fibroid embolization (UFE) uses microfiber lasers to seal off the blood supply to the fibroid, causing it to shrink. This minimally invasive procedure has been clinically proven to reduce the irritating symptoms of fibroids.
At the Suite for Women's Imaging, a pelvic MRI first determines whether someone is a candidate for UFE. The embolization procedure is then performed by one of our board-certified interventional radiologists at Norwalk Hospital. Imaging techniques allow the radiologist to see inside the body and treat the fibroids without surgery. If your symptoms impinge on the quality of your life, uterine fibroid embolization may be the right solution for you.
