Ultrasound is often used to detect breast abnormalities found on a mammogram.
Ultrasound guided biopsy at the Suite for Women’s Imaging at Norwalk Radiology is used to evaluate a suspicious mass in the breast that is visible on a breast ultrasound exam. Using a local anesthetic to numb the biopsy area, the ultrasound probe is place over the area of the breast lump and the radiologist guides the biopsy needle right into the mass. Tissue samples are taken and sent to pathology for analysis.
