A complement to mammography,
breast MRI is highly advanced technology that distinguishes between healthy and abnormal tissue that cannot be viewed through an x-ray.
Breast MRI is not a replacement for mammography. It is used to investigate breast
abnormalities detected with mammography, physical examination, or other imaging.
At the Suite for Women's for Imaging at Norwalk Radiology, breast MRI with CADstream®
allows a patient to receive the combined benefits of a highly skilled radiologist reading the
MRI image with that of a sophisticated computer software program that can highlight
abnormal or suspicious areas. Visit www.confirma.com for additional information.
Breast MRIs are recommended for women who are genetically predisposed to breast cancer, have a history of chest radiation treatments, or have breast implants. For those times when cancer is detected, breast MRI is used for staging breast cancer, to determine the most appropriate treatment, and for follow-up post–breast cancer treatment.
